Rising AI Computing Demand Creates New Growth Opportunities for AIDC Energy Storage

The year 2026 is widely regarded by the industry as the beginning of large-scale commercialization for AIDC energy storage. According to SPIR’s 2026 Global Energy Storage Industry Research White Paper, global AIDC energy storage system shipments reached 10GWh in the first five months of 2026, surpassing the total shipment volume of 2025. Annual shipments in 2026 are expected to approach 30GWh, while the market could further expand to 400GWh by 2030. AIDC is rapidly becoming a new growth engine for the energy storage sector.

AIDC facilities are characterized by high computing density, massive electricity consumption, and significant load fluctuations. As AI computing demand continues to grow exponentially, traditional power supply architectures designed around steady-state loads, long-duration backup power, and fault protection are gradually showing limitations in response speed and flexibility.

AI computing infrastructure now places three critical demands on energy systems: stronger power delivery capability, millisecond-level response speed, and highly reliable operation. Energy storage is no longer simply a backup power source for emergencies. Instead, it must also provide instantaneous power support and dynamic energy regulation to respond to rapid changes in computing loads.

BAK Develops 85Ah High-Rate Prismatic Cell for AIDC Energy Storage Applications

The evolving role of energy storage systems in AIDC applications has raised higher requirements for power output and safety at the battery cell level. Based on a deep understanding of AIDC energy demands, BAK’s 85Ah prismatic battery cell adopts a high-rate lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry platform and a winding-stacking structural design. The cell focuses on key capabilities including high-power output, low internal resistance, and enhanced safety, providing a new battery solution for AI data centers facing rapidly changing energy requirements.

To address the instant power demands caused by fluctuating AI computing loads, BAK’s 85Ah cell supports up to 12C continuous discharge, with a maximum power output of 2,500W. It can quickly deliver high-power pulses to support rapid load changes, enabling AIDC power systems to achieve millisecond-level response and helping maintain stable data center operations.

At the same time, the BAK 85Ah cell achieves an internal resistance of 0.3mΩ or below, helping reduce energy losses and heat generation during high-current charging and discharging. Under 6C discharge conditions, the cell temperature rise remains below 30°C, allowing high-power performance and operational efficiency to work together more effectively.

Designed for the high-power and long-duration operating requirements of AIDC environments, the cell delivers more than 2,000 cycles under 1C charging and 6C discharging conditions, balancing high performance with long cycle life. Its operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C further enables reliable performance across different climates and data center environments.

High Safety Performance Supports Reliable AIDC Deployment

Beyond high-power performance, safety and reliability are equally critical factors determining whether a battery product can be successfully deployed in AIDC applications. BAK’s 85Ah prismatic cell incorporates structural safety designs and multiple protection mechanisms. It has passed a series of rigorous safety tests, including nail penetration, overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and high-temperature testing, and has obtained multiple safety certifications such as UL9540A and UL1973.

The BAK 85Ah prismatic cell has already entered mass production, combining comprehensive performance advantages with stable delivery capabilities to accelerate the deployment of AIDC energy storage systems.

As competition in AI computing continues to intensify, stable and efficient energy supply is becoming a critical foundation supporting the continued expansion of computing capacity.
