MALAYSIA / PHILIPPINES, 15 September 2026 — Sungrow, a leading global supplier of PV inverters and energy storage systems, and ERS Energy, a prominent Malaysian solar EPCC company, have pushed their strategic alliance to a new milestone. Their combined storage pipeline in Malaysia and the Philippines now stands at close to 1 GWh. The signing ceremony strengthened ties between the two firms and made clear their shared intent to speed up storage deployment across Southeast Asia.
In Bahau, Malaysia, ERS Energy is acting as EPCC contractor for the 441 MWh MyBeST project, a four-hour battery installation. The scheme is part of Malaysia’s national large-scale BESS push, led by the Energy Commission of Malaysia, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
As Malaysia adds more renewable capacity, large-scale storage is set to become vital for balancing supply with demand. By charging when power is plentiful and discharging when it is needed, a BESS gives the grid more flexibility and helps it absorb a larger share of variable renewable output. With 441 MWh of capacity, the project is expected to bolster grid stability, allow more solar power onto the system, cut reliance on fossil-fuel peaking generation, and support Malaysia’s shift toward a more flexible and resilient power network.
In Zambales, Sungrow and ERS Energy are teaming up on a 556 MWh BESS for ACEN, with ERS Energy as EPCC contractor. The project’s grid-forming capability is a standout feature and marks another grid-forming storage venture for Sungrow in the Philippines. Unlike conventional grid-following systems, grid-forming technology can actively help keep voltage and frequency stable, offering extra support as renewables make up a bigger share of generation.
The installation will take part in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), so stored electricity can be charged and dispatched in line with market conditions. This flexible model is designed to make better use of stored power and to support a more responsive, reliable electricity system. WESM is the Philippines’ centralized power market, where prices are set by supply and demand.
Across the two markets, the projects show how storage can be shaped to fit different needs while delivering system-wide value: Malaysia emphasizes grid flexibility and renewable integration, while the Philippines combines grid-forming support with participation in competitive electricity trading.
Michael Ruan, Southeast Asia Director of Sungrow, said the region’s question is no longer whether it can generate more renewable energy, but whether its power systems are ready to handle it. Storage, he said, is what makes the difference. He added that Sungrow and ERS Energy are together building the flexibility and resilience needed to unlock more renewables and provide reliable power to communities and businesses across Southeast Asia.
Alex Lum, Executive Director of ERS Energy, said the milestone shows the execution strength that comes when strategic vision is paired with a strong partnership. He noted that ERS Energy is proud to serve as EPCC contractor for both the MyBeST projects in Malaysia and the ACEN project in the Philippines, delivering the storage infrastructure the region needs to meet its renewable energy ambitions.
