Conventional charging will not charge the battery at the same rate for the entire eight hours. It will charge the battery faster for the first four to five hours, then lower the amperage and run it for a few more hours to keep the battery level. Multi-shift operations require two or three batteries per truck, respectively, so that the batteries can be used in the forklift while the other batteries are charging and cooling.

Fast charging takes advantage of every possible opportunity to charge batteries at three to four times the rate of a conventional charger. This includes breaks within and between shifts and can eliminate the need for additional batteries.

Rapid forklift charger station work fast because they don't reduce the current rate like traditional chargers do. These chargers maintain a high charge rate throughout the charging time. Due to the higher constant charge rate and elevated temperatures, outgassing increases. Equalizing the charge once a week will help balance out the sulfation that occurs during the charging cycle.
