Dongfeng Debuts Next-Gen 1500kW Ultra-High-Power EV Charger

Dongfeng's megawatt charging station

Dongfeng Motor has launched its first self-developed ultra-high-power charging system, capable of delivering 1,500 kilowatts of peak power from a single gun. Revealed at a ceremony on July 29 at the company’s Global Innovation Center, the charging pile features a 1.2-megawatt main unit and supports flexible cabinet pairing, which allows the total capacity to be expanded to 2.4 megawatts. The system provides a maximum current of 1,500 amps over a wide voltage range of 150 to 1,000 volts, with an overall unit efficiency of at least 96.7 percent. This performance matches the capabilities announced by other automakers earlier this year and complies with China’s new Level-1 energy-efficiency standard for high-power charging (GB 46519-2025).

Dongfeng plans to create a full product lineup covering 720 kW to 2.4 MW by combining next-generation ultra-fast chargers with energy storage. These solutions are designed for both passenger and commercial vehicle applications, strengthening the company’s position in the rapidly evolving charging infrastructure market.

At the same event, Dongfeng also unveiled the iD5-300SN, its first kilovolt-class electric drive unit. The module uses a 1,500-volt-rated silicon carbide power module, operates from 450 to 1,000 volts, and delivers a peak output of 300 kW. Compatible with mainstream 800-volt platforms and extendable to 1,200 volts, the unit offers 30 percent higher power density than its predecessor and leads the industry in CLTC efficiency. The new e-drive will power the Mach series and underpin an upcoming kilovolt model from the Epicland brand, developed in partnership with Huawei.

These developments unfold amid intensifying competition among Chinese automakers to slash charging times. One state-owned brand recently demonstrated a battery charging from 10 percent to 70 percent state-of-charge in 3 minutes and 41 seconds, while another manufacturer’s second-generation rapid-charging battery achieves the same in five minutes. Plans are already underway to deploy thousands of ultra-fast charging stations nationwide by the end of 2026.
