At CES 2026, Donut Lab launched what it calls the first fully solid-state battery designed for direct integration into OEM electric vehicles. The battery is already being used in Verge Motorcycles’ 2026 TS Pro and Ultra models, scheduled to hit the road in Q1 this year.
The new solid-state cell delivers an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and can be fully charged in about five minutes—with no 80% charging limit. It also allows full depth of discharge and retains over 99% of its capacity even in extreme temperatures from –30°C to above 100°C. With an expected lifespan of up to 100,000 cycles, the battery eliminates flammable liquid electrolytes and metal dendrites, greatly reducing capacity loss and virtually removing the risk of fire.
Made from abundant, low-cost materials that avoid scarce or geopolitically unstable elements, the cells feature a modular design that can be tailored into various shapes, voltages, and geometries. This opens the door to structural battery uses—such as integrating cells directly into a drone airframe or a vehicle’s chassis.
Beyond motorcycles, Donut Lab is working with multiple industry partners to demonstrate the battery’s flexibility. WATT Electric Vehicles will showcase a modular skateboard platform using Donut Lab’s motors and batteries, while Cova Power Smart Trailers—developed with the Ahola Group—leverage the battery to cut diesel consumption by 54% and reduce total energy use by up to 30%. Together with ESOX Group, Donut Lab is also testing the technology for defense applications, including tactical buggies and advanced drone systems.
This announcement follows the debut of Donut Lab’s in-wheel “Donut Motor” at last year’s CES, which has since been adopted by more than 200 OEMs. By combining that motor with its new solid-state battery, Donut Lab is positioning itself to deliver a complete, high-performance electric powertrain for mobility and beyond.
