Schaeffler and CATL have agreed to deepen their collaboration in battery electrification technology through a newly signed memorandum of understanding. Under the agreement, the two companies will co-develop Battery Management Systems and “X-in-1” Integrated PowerBox solutions for electric mobility. The partnership grows out of a customer project that has already been secured, and it is intended to help meet rising demand for electrification across Europe. Both parties also indicated that the strengthened alliance is expected to improve their competitive position in the European market and open doors to further opportunities abroad.
The joint work will concentrate on two primary areas. One is the development of Battery Management Systems tailored to the specifications of European vehicle manufacturers. The other is the creation of integrated PowerBox units that package high-voltage electronics together with electromechanical components in a significantly more compact design. According to the announcement, the aim is to produce highly integrated electrification platforms that deliver strong performance, safety, and efficiency in a single solution.
In terms of capabilities, Schaeffler contributes broad expertise across the entire BMS chain, including hardware and software, system integration, functional safety, testing and validation, and localized volume manufacturing in Europe. CATL adds its strength in cell production, battery system engineering, and large-scale industrial ramp-up. The companies noted that these skill sets are complementary and provide a solid base for a lasting partnership in the battery electrification sector.
Schaeffler also emphasized that its well-established European infrastructure supports local R&D, production, market access, and compliance with regional regulations. CATL described the collaboration as reflecting a shared strategic outlook and a similar reading of where the industry is heading. The two partners additionally plan to investigate how cloud computing and artificial intelligence can be applied to battery management. Overall, both companies stated that the initiative is designed to support the development of competitive products not only for Europe but also for global markets.
