On March 5, 2026, NextStar Energy officially opened its cutting-edge battery manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario—marking Canada’s first and only commercial-scale plant dedicated to advanced battery production. Spanning 4.23 million square feet, the site has already produced more than one million battery cells since ramping up to full production in November 2025, a clear signal of rapid scaling and surging demand for energy storage solutions that go well beyond electric vehicles.

The inauguration drew a high-profile crowd, including NextStar Energy CEO Danies Lee, LG Energy Solution CEO David Kim, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly, and South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Resources Jung-Kwan Kim, along with other federal, provincial, and community leaders. Their remarks underscored the facility’s strategic importance in strengthening domestic supply chains and supporting a wide range of end-use sectors—from AI data centers and utility grids to municipal infrastructure and e-commerce platforms.

Since the LG Energy Solution and Stellantis joint venture was first announced in March 2022, the project has attracted CAD $5 billion in investment and created 1,300 direct jobs, with plans to reach 2,500 once the plant hits full capacity. Key construction milestones include the groundbreaking in November 2022, topping-out in December 2023, module production launch in October 2024, completion of construction in September 2025, and hiring the 1,000th employee in October 2025. In February 2026, LG Energy Solution took full ownership of NextStar Energy.
