BYD Unveils World’s Most Powerful 1500 kW EV Charger

BYD Unveils World’s Most Powerful 1500 kW EV Charger

BYD officially unveiled the world’s most powerful mass-produced supercharger on Thursday, coinciding with the debut of its second-generation blade battery.

The new charger delivers a single-gun power output of up to 1500 kW—a 50% jump from the first-generation flash-charger released in March 2025. It’s a major leap forward for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant as it ramps up its charging infrastructure game.

Each flash-charging stall is equipped with two charging guns and a super-fast discharging energy storage system. According to BYD, the setup maintains peak charging speeds even when both guns are in use simultaneously.

With each charging gun capable of serving 50 vehicles per day, a single gun can deliver 2,000 kWh of electricity daily—based on an average of 40 kWh per vehicle.

On the hardware side, BYD pioneered a sliding-rail suspended T-shaped pile. The charging guns and cables stay suspended in the air, avoiding tangles or dragging on the ground.

The zero-gravity charging gun makes one-handed operation effortless. Plus, the sliding-rail design allows the unit to move left and right, easily adapting to charging ports in different positions on the vehicle.

To back the hardware rollout, BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu announced the “Flash-charging China” strategy.

The company plans to build 20,000 flash-charging stations across China by the end of this year. As of March 5, BYD had already completed 4,239 stations.

These 20,000 stations fall into two categories. BYD will build 18,000 of them in collaboration with Chinese charging network operators—requiring no extra grid capacity or land, which makes construction fast and convenient. The goal: have a flash-charging station within 5 kilometers in 90% of urban areas.

The remaining 2,000 will be highway flash-charging stations, with an average of one station every 100-plus kilometers along major routes.

The first batch of 1,000 highway stations is set to be completed before this year’s May Day holiday, the company confirmed.

Looking further ahead, BYD plans to bring its flash-charging stations to overseas markets by the end of 2026—bringing its “Flash-charging Planet” vision to life.

Wang also announced that, effective immediately, all vehicles equipped with the second-generation blade battery will receive one year of free supercharging from the delivery date. After that, charging fees will fall in line with industry standards.

BYD also rolled out a wish list initiative: if four nearby flash-charging vehicle owners submit a request, BYD will conduct a site visit. If conditions allow, installation can be wrapped up within a week.

Importantly, BYD confirmed its flash-charging stations will be open to the public. That means electric vehicles from other brands can tap into BYD’s network too—though their charging speeds may be significantly lower than those of BYD models.

With domestic expansion underway and global ambitions set for 2026, BYD is making it clear: flash-charging isn’t just a feature—it’s the future.
