Due to technological advancements in the electric vehicle industry, owning an electric vehicle (EV) has never been more attractive. Electric vehicles are not only good for the environment, but also for your wallet. As more electric vehicles enter the market, vehicles become more affordable, which is certainly better for those considering one. One of the main concerns people have when buying an electric car is range -- this is known as "range anxiety." However, most city drivers drive 35 miles or less a day, so this isn't a problem for the average driver. Of course, the range will get better and better, making the car more attractive. However, most EV drivers welcome the opportunity to extend their range by charging at various points along the way. Electric vehicle charging stations are not as common as gas stations,
Adding EV changers to commercial properties is a great opportunity for many businesses and brands. Businesses that provide electric vehicle charging are becoming more and more popular. With a variety of websites and apps that help users locate charging stations, finding these businesses has never been easier. Businesses offering charging stations not only help boost their brand image by appearing greener, but they also attract potential customers who drive electric vehicles.
Put yourself in the mind of an EV driver, always looking for a charging station when out and about. Say you're going to the mall, wouldn't you prefer to have a charging station designed just for you to charge your car while you shop? Forward-thinking malls, malls, and hotels are beginning to offer such amenities to their customers and guests. With so many competing customers, adding an EV charging station is a great way to stand out and attract customers with disposable income.
As a business owner, you need to consider several options when investing in a charging station. There are three levels of EV chargers. Class 1 is a standard household 120-volt outlet. This method is by far the longest. Depending on the EV make and model, a full charge on Level 1 can take up to 24 hours or more, so that's really not an option. Level 2 is in the middle, it can provide twice as much voltage at 240v. Essentially, that means faster charging.
A level 1 charger is very cheap because it requires a normal household outlet, which is likely already available in your garage or nearby. However, if you're a business owner interested in installing charging stations, Tier 1s aren't as appealing, as they will only provide minimal power to your customers or employees who own an EV. Consumers who encounter Level 1 charging will be frustrated, which is not a good reflection of the business.
Level 2 chargers are by far the most common, practical, and easy-to-use chargers found in public charging stations. Most businesses with EV charging stations are equipped with Level 2 charging stations as they are compatible with all BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles). For business owners, especially small businesses, level 2 is definitely the way to go. It's an affordable and practical charging solution that your employees and customers will appreciate. It will appeal to a whole new group of consumers and help your business build an earth-conscious and eco-friendly brand.
Level 3, also known as "DC Fast Charge," is the fastest charging station available to consumers. One of these can fully charge your vehicle in about 30 minutes, but they are very expensive and impractical for most EV charger owners, and not all vehicles can be charged at level 3. These chargers will be more readily available as more consumers switch to electric vehicles.
There's also the Tesla Supercharger, which is currently only available on Teslas. The Tesla Supercharger is by far the fastest way to charge a Tesla. However, as mentioned above, they only work with Tesla-implemented charging stations. This won't give you the kind of value that a standard replacement station provides.
Electric vehicle charging stations are attractive to businesses of all sizes. Small businesses will appear greener and more competitive. Large businesses and corporations will also appear greener and more caring. If installed enough, it can be useful not only for customers, but also for employees who own electric vehicles.
Forward-thinking companies like Google, Netflix and Facebook have already started offering electric vehicle charging to their employees. If you are a business owner, consider investing, your employees and customers will thank you, and you will do a great job for the environment.
