Gotion High-Tech said on September 30, 2026, that its Jinshi solid-state cells are moving toward commercial deployment, with the company targeting 400 Wh/kg and USD 150/kWh. The update was presented at the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei.
According to Gotion, the cells use a sulfide-based solid electrolyte. The company had previously put the technology’s energy density at 350 Wh/kg, so the 400 Wh/kg goal represents a more ambitious commercialization threshold.
Gotion also reported progress on safety testing. It said the cells were subjected to puncture and high-temperature trials and did not emit smoke or catch fire. Gotion described those tests as extreme scenarios, adding that the results showed solid-state cells can combine high energy density with safety.
On cost, Gotion is aiming for 1 yuan/Wh, or roughly USD 150/kWh, for solid-state batteries. The source noted that this level is more than double the current average price of lithium iron phosphate cells in China. Gotion presented the figure as its eventual pricing target for the new cells.
In March 2026, Gotion completed the design of a 2 GWh solid-state battery production line. The company said it continues to prepare the Jinshi cells for real-world commercialization, including through safety validation. It did not disclose when mass production would begin.
Founded in Hefei in 2006, Gotion has 20 manufacturing sites worldwide and counts Volkswagen as its largest shareholder. China EV DataTracker reported that Gotion’s August 2026 battery installations reached 4.61 GWh, ranking it fifth among second-tier suppliers, behind peers including EVE Energy and CALB. Chinese battery makers and automotive brands are also preparing to trial-produce solid-state batteries and test them in vehicles in 2027.
