There is a wide range of electric vehicle chargers, which can be divided into two categories, ground chargers and on-board chargers, depending on their installation location. On-board chargers (OBCs), also known as on-board chargers, are chargers that are fixed on electric vehicles and have AC input overvoltage protection. OBCs have the advantages of small size, light weight, good closure, high safety and high power density, and are widely used in the field of electric vehicles.


On-board chargers usually consist of a power unit, DC output interface, AC input interface, control unit and other components. According to the different power, vehicle chargers are mainly divided into 3.3kw and 6.6kw. With the continuous expansion of power battery capacity and the continuous improvement of consumer requirements for range, the above two types of vehicle chargers can no longer meet the market demand. In recent years, electric vehicles equipped with 800V high-voltage fast-charging platforms have gradually achieved mass production, and high power has become the mainstream trend in the development of the on-board charger industry.


On March 1, 2022, the national standard "Conductive on-board chargers for electric vehicles", led by Beijing New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd, came into force, which clearly specifies the test methods and production technology requirements for conductive on-board chargers for electric vehicles. The implementation of the national standard provides the basis for the development of China's on-board charger industry.

There is a correlation between the development rate of the on-board charger industry and the market demand for electric vehicles. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, the number of pure electric vehicles in China will reach 10.45 million in 2022, accounting for 79.8% of the total number of new energy vehicles. Benefiting from the support of national policies, the purchase demand for electric vehicles is growing, driving the development of the vehicle charger industry to further accelerate. According to the "2023-2028 OBC Industry Market Depth Research and Investment Prospect Forecast Analysis Report" released by the NewSIQ Industry Research Center, the market size of China's vehicle charger reached 15.36 billion yuan in 2022, up 31.9% year-on-year.


Competition in China's onboard charger market is relatively fierce, with major players including large automotive enterprises and third-party auto parts suppliers. Large automotive enterprises are represented by Tesla and BYD; third-party auto parts suppliers are represented by Imbal, Wimax, Fudi Power, Fotek Technology and Xinrui Technology. In the first half of 2022, the installed capacity of Fudi Power's vehicle chargers exceeded 500,000 sets, ranking first in the industry.


According to industry analysts, with the rising prosperity of the electric vehicle industry, the market demand for vehicle chargers is becoming increasingly robust. Benefiting from national policy support and continuous innovation in production technology by local enterprises, the development of China's vehicle charger industry has accelerated. It is expected that in the coming period, China's vehicle charger industry will develop in the direction of high power and standardization.
