SAMSUNG SDI announced today that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KG Mobility (KGM), a leading Korean automaker, to jointly develop next-generation battery pack technologies for electric vehicles.

The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including SAMSUNG SDI’s Ick Kyu Choi, Head of Mobile & Power Battery Business (Executive Vice President), and Han Jae Cho, Head of Marketing (Executive Vice President). Representing KGM were Jeong Hyun Kwak, Chief Strategy Officer (President), and Yong Il Kwon, General Headquarter Director (Executive Director).

Under the agreement, the two companies will concentrate on battery pack technologies utilizing SAMSUNG SDI’s 46-series cylindrical battery cells, while also expanding their collaboration to advance next-generation battery pack development. The battery packs resulting from this partnership are anticipated to be integrated into KGM’s future electric vehicle models.

Additionally, the companies intend to establish a strategic partnership by sharing insights on mid- to long-term global battery market strategies and pursuing joint research and development initiatives.

SAMSUNG SDI’s 46-series cylindrical battery delivers high energy density, supporting both extended driving range and fast-charging capabilities. Designed with enhanced safety and durability, the battery ensures reliable performance across diverse driving conditions.

It incorporates high-capacity, high-nickel NCA cathodes along with SAMSUNG SDI’s proprietary Silicon Carbon Nanocomposite (SCN) anodes, which help reduce swelling and extend battery life. A tabless design further minimizes internal resistance and optimizes current flow, improving high-power output and fast-charging performance. Advanced thermal management and refined manufacturing processes also contribute to greater safety and quality reliability.

Through this collaboration, SAMSUNG SDI emphasized the strong performance and quality of its 46-series cylindrical batteries and expects the partnership to support the future growth of its battery business.
